LS ELECTRIC, Steps Up Its Push into Europe with Next-Generation Power Solutions Together with LS Cable & System

LS ELECTRIC, together with LS Cable & System, is stepping up its push into the European market, which is accelerating electrification policies, by presenting a comprehensive lineup of core next-generation grid technologies.

LS ELECTRIC announced that it will jointly participate with LS Cable & System in “CIGRE 2026,” the world’s largest academic and exhibition event in the power industry, to be held in Paris, France, for six days from the 23rd to the 28th (local time).

LS ELECTRIC will set up an exhibition space of 13 booths (113㎡) under the theme “Driving the Super Grid with LS,” and will showcase a wide range of next-generation power technology capabilities, including ▲HVDC (High-Voltage Direct Current) solutions ▲AI data center solutions ▲DC solutions.

LS ELECTRIC will take direct aim at the HVDC market—often called the “crown jewel” of next-generation power grids—whose importance is rising in Europe amid growing power demand and expanding renewable energy. Leveraging its experience as Korea’s only company with current-source HVDC project execution, LS ELECTRIC will present converter transformers (C-TR), while also accelerating its global market push with next-generation voltage-source HVDC technologies. It will also introduce grid-stabilization solutions that enhance grid stability, such as STATCOM (static synchronous compensators).

It will also unveil next-generation AI data center solutions. Targeting AI data centers where power demand is surging, LS ELECTRIC will highlight DC distribution technologies that reduce power conversion losses and improve energy efficiency. Based on demonstration experience from the world’s first 100% DC distribution factory, the “DC Factory,” built at its Cheonan site, LS ELECTRIC plans to enter the global market with world-class DC distribution technologies such as solid-state transformers (SST) and solid-state circuit breakers (SSCB).

LS Cable & System will present next-generation grid solutions that respond to Europe’s energy transition and grid advancement, including ▲HVDC submarine and underground cable systems ▲superconducting cable systems. By introducing key technologies that connect generation sources, transmission networks, and major demand centers, it plans to actively promote its total-grid competitiveness.

In particular, as Europe expands renewable energy, investments are increasing in long-distance transmission networks and cross-border interconnections, heightening the importance of HVDC cables. Based on its HVDC cable technologies spanning both submarine and underground applications and its experience executing global projects, LS Cable & System aims to expand participation in Europe’s grid advancement projects.

LS Materials, a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, will showcase ultracapacitors (UC) as it targets the AI data center power infrastructure market. UCs are energy storage devices that can respond quickly to instantaneous high-power demand, supporting stable power operations for AI data centers where electricity usage is rapidly increasing.

Recently, Europe has been actively pursuing energy-transition policies to overcome the energy crisis originating in the Middle East by reducing fossil fuel use across key economic sectors—such as heating, transport, and industry—and replacing it with electricity generated from renewable energy.

According to the European Commission, about EUR 584 billion in investment will be needed in the EU’s power grids by 2030 to support the energy transition. With about 40% of EU distribution grids having been installed more than 40 years ago, Europe is emerging—alongside North America—as a key market where power infrastructure investment is rapidly expanding, driven by the combination of aging grid replacement needs, renewable energy expansion, and electrification policies for security.

An LS ELECTRIC official said, “With this exhibition participation, LS Cable & System and LS ELECTRIC will expand the growth momentum in power infrastructure business that has continued in North America into Europe,” adding, “In the rapidly changing global power market, we will continue to identify new growth opportunities based on differentiated technological capabilities and project experience, maximize synergy with LS affiliates, and accelerate our push into the European market.”

Meanwhile, CIGRE is the world’s most authoritative academic organization in the power systems field, founded in France in 1921, and holds sessions in Paris every two years with participation from power companies, global power firms, and experts from around the world.
